Years ago, when the boys were very little, we bought a swing set. There was a ladder leading to the loft where the boys could oversee the happenings below. One day, climbing down the ladder forward instead of the expected backward, Hayden slipped and hit his head on one of the rungs of the ladder. (We should note that Hayden is physically exceptional and rarely hurts himself - having a great sense of where his body is in space, and also, he's fearless). He developed a knot on his forehead which looked almost like a third eye. We called our Homeopath to see if there was anything we could do besides an ice pack. He said, "Arnica Montana, of course." I said, "What's that?" His response: "Zoe, that's Homeopathy 101!!!" I was a little embarrassed, but grateful for his advice. I bought arnica in a cream and also pellet (which we call crunchies in our house), that day, and applied the cream to Hayden's forehead, and gave him pellets. The pellet are sublingual, and should actually have time to dissolve under the tongue for the best assimilation into the system. When I'm not feeling rushed, I do dissolve the pellets in water and then let Hayden drink it - however, in a rush, he opens his mouth, in go the pellets, and he crunches away.  I swear they still work just as well.

The next morning we examined Hayden's forehead and there was zero evidence of his accident! We were completely amazed. We'd used other Homeopathic remedies for sure, and always had great results, but this felt short of a miracle.

Arnica montana is one of the most beneficial substances available in nature, with the power to relieve many of the common aches, pains, and injuries that arise in our daily lives. The main uses of Arnica include bruising, swelling, pain relief, arthritis, and injuries.

Another incident, years later, proved that Arnica Montana is our savior! We were on Amherst Island, Ontario visiting relatives. The young boys, around 6 or 7 years old, were playing baseball. Willsey's cousin "accidentally" hit him right in the face with the baseball bat.  It looked like it could be pretty bad. I didn't panic, I ran to my medicine bag - which I take with us everywhere - and pulled out the Arnica (cream and pellets). I applied it and said all would be well. My cousin was not convinced, not even a little bit. The next morning, she ran to Willsey and examined his face - truly no bruising or swelling at all. It, again, felt like a miracle!!

Arnica is one of the best remedies available to heal bruises faster. Falls, blows, and other traumas can cause blood vessels to break under your skin and spill blood, causing tenderness and discoloration. Arnica speeds up the healing process, prompting your body to send more white blood cells to clean up and repair the bruise.

Nature’s anti-inflammatory, Arnica is well known for its ability to reduce swelling. Thus, it offers significant benefits in the treatment of sprains, strains, and other injuries. Some surgeons recommend Arnica as a remedy to reduce post-surgical swelling.

Known as Wolf's Bane, Mountain Tobacco or Mountain Daisy, Arnica grows and thrives in tough conditions. It is widespread across most of Europe, usually in alpine meadows upwards of 9,000 feet above sea level. Used for centuries, this medicinal plant is beautiful and strong.

When we have a sore back or neck, and don't have arnica cream, we use our Serum, which Robert likes to remind me, "has a higher percentage of arnica than the arnica cream itself!!"

**Note: Since we are under construction, all our photos are stored in our attic.  We didn't have any images of our boys playing on the swing set as a result.  The image of Hayden looking bruised is a result of his self-injury.  Our serum (loaded with arnica) works wonders for him!
